What stays on the host’s PC (records of players who join)
Players’ PCs and phones
Nothing is installed on, or looked at on, the phone or PC of someone who joins. The mod, the launcher and the Aegis tray app run only on the host’s PC. Nothing is sent to the author automatically (no usage data). Players’ IP addresses are not recorded.
What a room keeps (only on that host’s PC)
- your in-game name, platform, the room code, when you joined and left
- the numbers Aegis judges by (kill distance, movement speed, how many chat lines, and so on)
- when you are removed or banned, one “evidence record” (which rule, when, which room, what the numbers were)
Aegis’s records never hold your friend code or PUID (account number) themselves; a hash (a value made by a fixed calculation) is kept instead. One exception: when the host adds someone with /ban without days, or with /vip, /mod or /admin, the PUID (or the friend code if there is none) is written as it is into Banlist.txt and similar files on that host’s PC.
How long things stay
- Evidence records: 90 days after they were made. For a ban still in force, the later of those 90 days and 30 days after the ban ends.
- The ban record (aegis-bans.json): while a ban lasts, only what it needs to keep working. 30 days after it ends the name and history go, and only the minimum of the offence count stays for a year.
- Logs, report zips and copies of sent reports: 30 days.
- Lists the host writes by hand (Banlist.txt and others): until the host deletes them.
Deletion happens when PocketRoles starts (and once a day while it runs). The host needs to do nothing. PocketRoles v0.5.4 and older don’t run this automatic deletion.
Chat
Ordinary chat is not kept in the logs or evidence records. Only the part that hit a blocked word (and how many times) and the first 40 characters of a meeting line that names an impostor are kept. Chat translation is off by default; only while the host has turned it on is chat text sent to Google or DeepL to translate it (names aren’t sent).
What leaves the host’s PC
- It only downloads the definitions file (detection limits, blocked words, the shared ban list) from GitHub (nothing is uploaded).
- Only if the host sets them up: chat translation, posting the room code to Discord, and official Among Us reports.
- When the game crashes, depending on Windows settings, .NET (the Microsoft runtime that BepInEx runs on) may put extra data into the error report and send it to Microsoft. It reaches Microsoft through Windows Error Reporting; PocketRoles doesn’t send it (earlier versions had .NET too, installed with BepInEx; since v0.5.6 it is also inside the mod zip).
What the author and admins can see
Only the shared ban list (PUID hashes only), report zips hosts or admins chose to send, and what is written in tickets. Nobody can look into another host’s PC.
