If “Windows protected your PC” appears

StarPocket GamesUpdated:
PocketRolesStarPocket ClientInstall, launch & bugs

Why it appears

PocketRoles and StarPocket Client are free personal projects and don’t have a code-signing certificate yet. So the first time you open StarPocket Client (StarPocket Client.exe) or the old launcher (PocketRoles Launcher.cmd) that you downloaded from the internet, Windows (SmartScreen) shows this screen. It doesn’t mean a virus was found. But a fake file shows the same screen too, so judge by where you downloaded it. A code-signing certificate for an individual shows their legal name and where they live, so the author doesn’t sign the files for now. The author applied for free signing that doesn’t show a personal name (SignPath Foundation), but it wasn’t approved this time.

What to click

  1. Click “More info”. You’ll see “App:”, “Publisher:” and a “Run anyway” button.
  2. If “App:” shows the name of the file you just opened (PocketRoles Launcher.cmd or StarPocket Client.exe) and “Publisher:” is “Unknown publisher”, click “Run anyway”.

For now (until the author starts signing), if “Publisher:” shows the name of a company or a person, it’s not the author’s file. Don’t open it; delete it.

If “PocketRoles Launcher.cmd” still doesn’t open: right-click the file, choose “Properties”, tick “Unblock” near the bottom, press “OK”, then double-click it again.

Want to check it’s the real file?

Compare it with the sha256: value shown next to each file on the GitHub release page (for PocketRoles, also SHA256SUMS.txt) to confirm it’s the same file the author published (Check that a download is genuine).

If your antivirus flags it
