Game does not start or stays on a black window
Check these in order
- The first launch (and the first launch after a game update) stays on a black console window for 1–3 minutes while BepInEx generates the files it needs (interop). Please wait and do not close it.
- Make sure Steam is running. Without Steam the game closes immediately (P-01).
- Make sure Among Us is not already running (taskbar / Task Manager). Two copies can't run at once (P-03). If it is running, close it and press “Launch” again.
- Some antivirus programs quarantine BepInEx’s winhttp.dll. Don’t rush to “Allow” or “Exclude” it, and don’t exclude a whole folder. First check that the file came from the official page (Check that a download is genuine), then press “Check for updates” and “Launch” in the launcher (in StarPocket Client, press “Install” or “Repair” again).
- Right after an Among Us update, the mod may need a compatible release first (Updating).
- On 32-bit Windows, Among Us itself no longer runs since 2026.9.29.
No roles appear (the mod is disabled)
If your Among Us version is different from the one PocketRoles supports, the mod disables itself until a compatible release is out. The game still starts, but no roles appear. You’ll see (version mismatch) at the top left of the screen, and a notice in the host’s chat.
Among Us is 64-bit since 2026.9.29. If the 32-bit BepInEx is still installed, the mod simply does nothing and no error is shown (the game still starts normally, which makes this easy to miss). If “PocketRoles v0.5.6” isn’t shown at the top left of the game, update to PocketRoles v0.5.6; it puts the 64-bit BepInEx in place (old launcher: “Check for updates” → “Yes”; StarPocket Client: “Check for updates” → “Update”, or “Repair” in v1.1.2 — Updating).
If a code appears on screen
- P-14 BepInEx is missing → press “Repair”.
- P-24 PocketRoles couldn’t load → close the game and press StarPocket Client’s play button (it has turned into “Repair”).
- R-44 BepInEx’s start-up part is different → “Repair”, then start the game again.
- Look up any other code in the error code list.
If StarPocket Client won’t open
StarPocket Client draws its window with the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. If it’s missing, the app shows a button that opens Microsoft’s official page and a “Check again” button (it never installs anything by itself). Windows 11 already has it. The older launcher (PocketRoles Launcher.cmd) still works too.
If it still doesn’t work
Press “Create report zip” in the launcher and send the zip to the bug contact. We’ll look at the log (How to send a bug report).
