About StarPocket Client
What it is
StarPocket Client combines the current PowerShell version (PocketRoles Launcher and the Aegis tray) into one app. Your Steam copy of Among Us stays as it is; the mod goes into a separate copy. Task Manager shows it as “StarPocket Client”, not “Windows PowerShell”.
Requirements
64-bit Windows 10 (1903 or later) or Windows 11, Among Us from Steam (2026.9.29), .NET Framework 4.8 (already installed) and the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (already on Windows 11). Among Us itself no longer runs on 32-bit Windows since 2026.9.29. The exe isn’t Windows code-signed yet (If “Windows protected your PC” appears).
The first time you open it
You’re asked to read and agree to the Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy and the Play Rules (P-31). Without agreeing you can’t use the official Client. Nothing goes over the network before you agree. If you’re under 18, read them with a parent or guardian.
Installing
Press “Install” and it runs five steps: [1/5] Copying the Steam Among Us → [2/5] Downloading BepInEx → [3/5] Fetching the latest PocketRoles → [4/5] Creating the launch files → [5/5] Saving state. If it stops midway, press “Continue” and it skips the steps already done (P-12).
Before unpacking the BepInEx zip, it checks that its fingerprint (SHA-256) matches the recorded value. If not, the zip is deleted and nothing goes into the game.
v1.1.2 installs the 64-bit BepInEx (6.0.0-be.735 win-x64). If the 32-bit BepInEx is installed, the status line says “Needs a repair”. Press “Repair” to switch it (your game copy, settings and room-restriction records stay as they are). After a Steam update rebuilds the copy, the kind of BepInEx is checked again.
The pre-launch check (the Aegis part of room restrictions)
Every time it starts, it checks 13 items and shows them in a small window at the bottom right. If all is well it disappears after 1.8 seconds. Any red item blocks play until it’s fixed. If the PocketRoles file has changed (R-41) or BepInEx’s start-up part is different (R-44), the play button turns into “Repair”; pressing it reinstalls.
Updates
“Check for updates” looks at GitHub only when you press it. After a Steam update you’ll see “Update and play”, and when your version is older than required you’ll see “Update” (Updating). Client itself has no automatic self-update yet.
To install PocketRoles v0.5.6 (for Among Us 2026.9.29), press “Check for updates”, then press “Update” when the play button shows it. The 64-bit BepInEx comes with it (v1.1.1 too). v1.1.1 may show the line “supported: 2026.8.18”; you can still play (v1.1.2 doesn’t show it).
To update the Client itself to a new version, first quit it (✕ only puts it away in the system tray, so right-click the Client icon in the system tray → “Quit”). Right-click the new zip → “Extract All”, change the destination to your current Client folder, extract, and choose “Replace the files in the destination”. Your settings and records are outside the app’s folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\StarPocket\Client), so they stay.
Network use
The app sends nothing to the internet (it only receives). The only automatic connection fetches the room-restriction definitions file from GitHub. Other downloads (checking for mod updates, the mod, BepInEx) happen only when you press a button, and only from five https hosts (api.github.com, github.com, objects.githubusercontent.com, release-assets.githubusercontent.com, builds.bepinex.dev). WebView2, which draws the window, may talk to Microsoft.
Choosing which game starts
In Settings → PocketRoles you can choose whether Play starts PocketRoles or the normal Among Us (Steam).
Moving from the old launcher
StarPocket Client is now recommended over the old launcher (PocketRoles Launcher). The order matters. The first time it opens, and only then, the Client takes over your settings from the “PocketRoles Launcher” icon on your desktop.
- Finish playing, then close the old launcher and the room-restriction (Aegis) icon in the system tray.
- Download
StarPocketClient-unsigned.zipfrom the StarPocket Client releases page on GitHub (don’t download it from anywhere else). - Right-click the zip → “Extract All”. Put it in a different folder from the old launcher (in the same folder, the two can fight over the settings file and break it).
- Open
StarPocket Client.exe(if a blue screen appears, see this). On the first screen, read and answer the Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy and the Play Rules. - If it says “Needs a repair”, press “Repair” (this puts in the 64-bit BepInEx).
- Press “Settings” → “Add a desktop shortcut” (the Client only makes the icon when you press this).
- Start Steam and press “Play”. “PocketRoles v0.5.6” at the top left means you’re done. If it isn’t there, close the game, press “Check for updates”, press “Update” if it appears, then “Play” again.
- Keep the old launcher’s folder (as a backup). Once all of the above is done you may delete the old icon on the desktop.
- Don’t open both at once.
- Don’t reinstall the game copy (deleting it also deletes the settings, the Banlist and the room-restriction records inside it).
- The first time the Client is used on a PC, it deletes nothing. From the second time on, it deletes game logs older than 30 days and the report zips and evidence zips on the desktop. Move anything you want to keep to another folder before you open it the second time.
Full steps: PocketRoles README (how to switch).
Moving the game copy
“Settings” → “PocketRoles” → “Among Us location” → “Change location” moves the mod copy (about 1 GB) to a folder that is not the desktop (from v1.1.2). It can’t go inside Steam’s folder, OneDrive, a network location or Program Files. After moving it, don’t open the old launcher (it doesn’t read this setting, so it would make another copy on the desktop, and your settings and room-restriction records would be split in two).
