Updating, and when Among Us updates

Among Us is 64-bit since 2026.9.29. PocketRoles supports it from v0.5.6. The v0.5.6 mod zip (PocketRoles-0.5.6.zip) also contains the 64-bit BepInEx.
- If you use the old launcher (PocketRoles Launcher): press “Check for updates” → “Yes”. The 64-bit BepInEx comes with it. If it says the Steam version was updated, answer “Yes” (it rebuilds the copy).
- If you use StarPocket Client: press “Check for updates”, then press “Update” when the play button shows it (v1.1.1 too). In v1.1.2, “Repair” also fixes it when the status line says “Needs a repair”.
- If you download the zip yourself (“Check for updates” fails): do not extract
PocketRoles-0.5.6.zip. Put it as it is in the folder of the launcher (PocketRoles Launcher.cmd) and press “Install”. If you extract it first, the 64-bit BepInEx is not installed.
“PocketRoles v0.5.6” at the top left of the game means it worked. Plain Among Us started from Steam works as always. On 32-bit Windows, Among Us itself no longer runs since 2026.9.29.
The room-restriction (Aegis) tray may show this line; you can still play. “Check for updates” replaces only the mod, and the tray stays the old version (StarPocket Client v1.1.1 shows the same line; v1.1.2 does not). To make it go away, switch to StarPocket Client v1.1.2 or later, or close the launcher and the tray, then extract PocketRoles-Setup-0.5.6.zip and let it overwrite the folder of your current launcher.
In a local (LAN) room, the second game may not start (it stays in the lobby after the countdown). Restart the game to play again. Online rooms aren’t affected. A fix is planned for the next version.
Install a new PocketRoles release
Press “Check for updates” in the launcher. If a new PocketRoles has been published, it is swapped in automatically. In StarPocket Client, after “Check for updates”, press “Update” when the play button shows it. Your settings and appearance files stay. When a new release exists you’ll see the P-23 notice, but you can keep playing on your current version.
When Steam’s Among Us updates
After a Steam update you’re asked whether to update the mod copy (P-13). Without updating the mod copy you can’t go online. The first launch after updating takes 1–2 minutes again.
Until a compatible release is out
After an Among Us update, the mod disables itself until a compatible release is out (the game still starts, but no roles appear — P-21). The old game version can’t go online, so please wait for the compatible release. Until then you can play the normal Steam Among Us (without the mod) as usual. Compatible releases are published on GitHub Releases (https://github.com/wakayamachannel/PocketRoles/releases). We can’t promise a date, but we update as soon as we can.
If “Update required” appears
When the author decides that versions older than a certain one can’t be used, older versions can no longer create rooms (P-22). You get just three choices: update, play the normal Among Us (Steam) instead, or cancel. Joining other people’s rooms, Freeplay and the normal Steam Among Us all keep working.
With the release of v0.5.6, the required version is now v0.5.6. If you see this screen, pressing “Update” installs v0.5.6 (the 64-bit BepInEx comes with it). v0.5.5 and earlier do not run on Among Us 2026.9.29 (64-bit). Use “Check for updates” in the launcher (or “Update” in StarPocket Client) to install v0.5.6.
If “Now starts off” appeared after updating
From v0.5.5 on, chat translation and the automatic report to Among Us start off. A value already in your config file wins, so after updating from an older version chat translation is still on. The notice appears once, on the host’s own screen, in the first room created after the update.
